Today In Michael Jackson History (January 10th)

1989 – The Moonwalker film was released theatrically in the month of October 1988 in Europe and South America, but Warner Bros. canceled plans for a Christmas 1988 theatrical release in the United States.

Moonwalker was instead released on home video in the United States and Canada on January 10, 1989, just as the Bad tour finished.

Michael’s then-manager Frank Dileo decided not to release “Moonwalker” in the US movie theatres.

“Moonwalker” debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top Music Video Cassette chart and stayed there for 22 weeks before being replaced by himself, with “Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues”.

Michael’s feature-length movie, Moonwalker, was released to theaters in the United Kingdom and Australia on Boxing Day, 1988, and on home video in the U.S. and Canada on January 10, 1989.

1973 – The Jackson 5 appear on the Dick Cavett Show.

1974 – One More Time, a Jackson 5 TV Special is aired on CBS. The group performs Get It Together + a medley of I Want You Back/ABC/I’ll Be There/Ben/Daddy’s Home/Never Can Say Goodbye/The Love You Save and another medley Up a Lazy River/Opus One (with the Mills Brothers).

2004 – It was reported that Michael Jackson was going to lease a cliffside estate in Beverly Hills, CA. Jackson had recently said that he wouldn’t live at Neverland Ranch again.
